- About the Professor
Jim Salzman, Yale College Class of 1985, is the Donald Bren Distinguished Professor of Environmental Law with joint appointments at the UCLA School of Law and at the School of the Environment at UC Santa Barbara. An international expert on drinking water, he frequently appears as a media commentator and has lectured on every continent. He has taught at Yale, Stanford, Duke, and Harvard as well as at universities in Australia, China, Israel, Italy, Portugal, and Sweden. Students at Duke twice voted him Professor of the Year. A prolific author, there have been over 110,000 downloads of his broad-ranging scholarship from around the globe on topics such as water, wildlife, climate change, and creating markets for nature.
With concerns over pollution and new technologies like fracking, is it safe to drink tap water? Should we feel guilty buying bottled water? Is the water we drink vulnerable to terrorist attacks? With springs running dry and reservoirs emptying, where is our water going to come from in the future?
