Please join Yale Alumni Academy for our 5th annual Climate Change conversation series. We have assembled a distinguished roster of expert faculty and researchers to discuss the leading climate change issues affecting our planet. In this session, Yale historian, Sunil Amrith, will discuss his new book “The Burning Earth: A History which goes back 500 years to trace the many, tangled paths that have brought the world to a place of environmental danger and vulnerability. How did we arrive at this point of planetary crisis? Presenting a radically global perspective—silver mining in Peru and its links to China; the history of nineteenth-century migrations as a vehicle for environmental transformation; a new perspective on the two world wars as planetary struggles over animal, vegetal, and mineral resources—Amrith will ask how a reckoning with history can help to inform discussions of environmental justice.
